DIY Board & Batten Video Tutorial
I recently added a board & batten feature wall to the fireplace wall in our living room, and added board & batten trim work to our new dining room. Today I wanted to share with you a video tutorial on how I install my own board & batten trim and how you can too! It’s such a great way to add some texture and interest to a space, and once you practice using the tools, it’s not too hard to do.
I think adding this trim work and the contrasting colours to our fireplace wall in our living room made this wall pop and highlighted our fireplace even more.
Now, the fireplace looks like it belongs here and we can enjoy fires even more. Lately, we’ve been using Duraflame Crackleflame fire logs in our fireplace for that cozy crackling sound on the recently raining evenings. They’re made with 100% renewable resources and they’re such a cinch to light!
I could sit here for hours at night listening to the crackle of the logs and staring at our new board & batten. I think it looks great here and in our dining room, and I feel so proud that I did it all myself!
Let me show you how to make your own DIY board and batten feature wall:

Inspirational! Its motivational too, for DIY’ers. Loved the pics. Thanks!
Do you have the name of the baseboards and dimensions of the baseboards you used for the board and batten wall?
Absolutely love this look. You’ve inspired me to do this! Your video was really great.
How did you determine the width of the spaces with different lengths of wall on either side of the fireplace?
This was planned out on paper to see what would look best. The 2 end sections are different sizes than the 2 middle sections on the one wall. I prefer to have sections wider than 12 inches but less than 18.
Just wondering how you determine the thickness of the vertical strips. I was wanting to do this in a smaller bathroom but not sure what thickness to choose for the vertical boards.
The vertical strips are the same width as the baseboards.
