How to make a mushroom DIY Christmas ornament

For this project, you’ll need:

• wooden mushrooms from Amazon
• Mod Podge
• small paint brush
• imitation gold leaf sheets
• hot glue gun
• moss
• small dried flowers
• string

Start with these cute wooden mushrooms from Amazon, and brush some Mod Podge on the the cap of one mushroom.

Next, press an imitation gold leaf sheet onto the Mod Podge. Add more sheets, and press them to cover the entire mushroom cap.

Once the Mod Podge is completely dry, take a stiff brush and brush off any excess gold leaf. This is a messy job, so be sure to do it over a garbage can.

Then, cut a piece of string into a 6″ length and tie it into a circle. Place a dollop of hot glue onto the top of the mushroom. Next, push the un-knotted side of the string loop into the hot glue. Let the glue cool before letting go of the string so that it’s firmly in place.

Now you can place a circle of hot glue on the mushroom cap, around the string. Push some moss into the glue. This hides the first dollop of glue and adds a Cottagecore touch.

Finally, place a small amount of hot glue onto the backs of some small dried flowers and affix them to the moss.

I made 8 of these Cottagecore mushroom ornaments for our tree this year.

They look adorable on the tree, and I can’t wait to show you the entire look soon!
