DIY Christmas Ornament: Fabric and Ribbon Wrapped

Happy Remembrance Day to my fellow Canadian readers! I am so grateful for the brave men and women that fought for our freedom today. Today, I’m going to sit down with my girls, show them this little video, and talk about what the poppy symbolizes and what sacrifices have been made for us.

It’s day two of DIY Christmas ornament week. In case you missed yesterday’s baby food jar tree globe ornaments, here they are. Today I’m sharing with you a simple idea to upcycle your old ornaments into something unique and beautiful. It’s so easy too! These beautiful fabric and ribbon wrapped ornaments are simple, pretty, and really fun to make.

All you need are some old ornaments (I used some plastic ones that I didn’t like the colour of anymore), a glue gun, and some strips of fabric or ribbon.

I tore some strips off of a drop cloth and pulled off the extra strings for some of my wrapped ornaments – I was pleasantly surprised with how cute these ones looked! So sweet and shabby chic. For my other wrapped ornaments, I used strips of burlap and some pretty cotton ribbon from May Arts.

All you do is put a dab of glue near the top of the ornament, adhere the top of your fabric strip or ribbon, and start gluing and wrapping your cloth around the ornament! I tried to use a fixed top and bottom point, and wrap methodically around the balls. For extra vintage charm, I tied some twine through the tops of the ornaments when they were finished.
