Make Hot Chocolate Reindeer and Snowman Jar Gifts – A Kid’s Craft
With Christmas less than a week away, all of the kindergarten and dance class recitals complete, and our home decorated and ready to go, we are taking some time to relax and enjoy the season together. What better way to relax and enjoy Christmas than to do fun, festive crafts together! This craft was something we made up as we went along, and it doubles as a fun kid’s activity as well as a unique neighbor or teacher gift. This silly recycled baby food jar hot chocolate reindeer and marshmallow snowman were a big hit in our house! Come read how we made this fun & simple Christmas craft. #YahooDIY
Materials (for both the reindeer and the snowman jars):
- recycled, clean baby food jars (the large, tall kind)
- 2 children’s socks (I used socks that had lost their buddy)
- hot chocolate mix
- mini marshmallows
- string
- brown pipecleaner
- googly eyes
- a small pom pom for the reindeer’s nose
- small pom poms or rhinestones for the snowman’s buttons
- a Sharpie pen
- glue gun
First, make a hat and scarf/collar for each jar buddy by cutting each sock up like so:
Stretch the cuff of the sock with the cuff side down over the top of each baby food jar and tie the top with string like this:
The band you cut from the middle of the bottom of the sock can stretch around the middle of the jar as a scarf for the snowman and a collar for the reindeer.
To make the reindeer’s antlers, cut the pipecleaner in half and then coil each piece around a pencil to create spiral shapes as shown above. Glue each antler to each side of the reindeer’s hat with a glue gun.
Glue the googly eyes on the reindeer and snowman. Glue a pom pom on the reindeer for a nose, and draw a mouth on the snowman with a Sharpie pen.
Finish the reindeer by gluing a bell to its collar. Finish the snowman by glueing either rhinestone or pop pom buttons down his chest.
Little A was infatuated with our little snowman and reindeer – it’s going to be very hard to give them away!
