DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater + 10 Virtual Christmas Party Ideas!
Let me show you how to make the easiest, cutest “ugly” Christmas sweater ever plus I’m sharing 10 fun virtual Christmas party ideas for this year!
2020 has been quite the year for all of us, so I’m trying to think of ways we can make Christmas extra fun and festive. This “ugly” Christmas sweater is a very simple DIY, and I actually think it turned out kind of cute! It would be fun to wear to a virtual Christmas party this year, and I’m sharing 10 virtual Christmas party ideas below too.
To make this easy DIY ugly Christmas sweater, grab an inexpensive white sweater. I found mine on Amazon. Then find a dozen or so pom-poms in your favourite colours. Next, slide a sheet of construction paper between the layers of your sweater, place the pom-poms in spots you like, and glue them in place with hot glue. I like Gorilla hot glue because I can hand wash items that use it.

Now, what fun is a DIY ugly sweater if you can’t show it off?!
Here are 10 virtual Christmas party ideas for 2020:
Christmas Craft Party
Choose an easy Christmas craft that your friends will enjoy making, and create it together via a Zoom meet or Google Meet. Pick something that doesn’t have too many hard-to-find supplies and that you can all make in under 30 minutes. How about a wreath or some hot chocolate bombs?
Christmas Movie-a-thon
Is there a special Christmas movie that you and your friends or family all love? Share it to your screen and watch it virtually together! Send everyone your favourite DIY movie snack ideas before the party so you can all make something yummy to eat while you watch.
Virtual Cookie Exchange
Have everyone bake their favourite Christmas cookies, and then show them off during your Zoom, Facebook or Google call. Describe your cookie’s taste, and have everyone share the recipes.
Virtual Christmas Dinner
If your family can’t meet in person this Holiday season, eat Christmas dinner together virtually. Set a time where you’ll all be ready to eat, and share fun memories together during the meal. Have a fun verbal game ready just in case you run out of things to chat about.
Games Night
Setup a game that you and your family or friends can all play online together, and one where you can chat at the same time. Alternatively, a game like charades would be perfect to play in a video call together!
Gingerbread House Contest
Deliver the same gingerbread house kit to each party participant, and decorate the houses together over a Zoom call. Share them on your favourite social channel after the party for your friends to vote which creation is the best!
Virtual Secret Santa
Gather a group of friends, and randomly match up pairs of friends to give gifts to one another. Have the friends drop off or mail their secret gifts to each other, and then open them up during your virtual party together.
Christmas Scavenger Hunt
Create a list of holiday-themed things that people might find in their homes (like greenery, a red ornament, oranges, a wrapped gift etc.) and host a virtual scavenger hunt! Give the list to your friends or family during your call and the first person to find each item on their list and show it to the group wins.
Christmas Tree Tours
Are the friends in your group home decor lovers? Take turns sharing your Christmas trees to each other via video tours! You can each show off your decorating skills, and share inspiration with each other for next year’s Holiday decor.
Virtual Cocktail Hour
If your family or friends love a delicious cocktail, why not take turns sharing your favourite recipe with each other? Even better, you could all send your recipes beforehand so everyone could gather all the ingredients and mix & test each cocktail together. Yummy and fun!
I hope you found these 10 virtual Christmas party ideas useful as we head into this unique season together. And what do you think of this simple DIY ugly sweater? I can’t wait to wear it to my next virtual even this Christmas!
