DIY Under Stairs Dog Nook with Handmade Dog Bed & Organizer
Every doggy needs a nook of his own, am I right?! Let me share with you how to turn an under-stairs nook into any dog’s dream space complete with a handmade, rustic bed and organizer for all of his most important accessories.
The Brookfield Residential Canvas show home in Paisley, Edmonton has lots of fabulous features like large windows and a beautiful, open floor plan, but one of my favourite things is this nook under the stairs:
It could be used for a variety of different things (did you see what I did to another Brookfield Residential show home nook this summer?), but we wanted to create something extra special in this nook.
Since there’s a dog park nearby the Canvas Townhomes, we thought this nook would be the perfect spot for any puppy to relax. Since the nook faces the kitchen (with the best & largest island EVER), puppy can be nearby while you prep dinner or clean the sink.
Since this nook already had some book / art ledges, I styled those with some adorable dog-themed art & photos of my own puppies.
A couple of doggy bowls on a mat serves as a mini eating area, and I sprayed some MDF letters I found at the craft store with a rose gold coloured paint for a fun “WOOF” sign above the nook.
The stars of the show in this doggy nook are the DIY dog bed and organizer I made from a few lengths of pine wood. They were an easy build, and they make the space so functional!
The dog bed fits a pre-made cushion, and the organizer can be hung on a wall and hold things like treats, toys, bags, leashes and more.
Ready to make this bed & organizer for your pup? Grab some inexpensive wood and watch the video below to learn how:
The wood measurements are as follows:
DOG BED
3 x 37 1/2″ 1×6 pine
4 x 22 1/2″ 1×6 pine
4 x 11″ 1×3 pine
DOG ORGANIZER

1 x 16 1/2″ 1×3 pine

It’s about time our four-legged friends had their own rooms – this is a really cute idea! Absolutely LOVE that shade of purple!
Thanks, Janet!
“A dog is the only relative you get to choose” LOL , that made me laugh
Hey Christina, what you did with that little unused and unloved space it’s really nice ! Well done.
It looks so nice when you look at the before and after results, I’m sure the little dogie will appreciate it.
