Fall 2016 Home Tour: Cozy, Colourful & Relaxed
Cozy. Safe. Relaxed. Happy. These are the words that I hope come to mind when people enter our home. I feel like the job of making our home into a safe haven for my husband, my children and our guests is an important one. As I slowly configure and reconfigure all of the rooms in our house to create this cozy and happy retreat for my little family, I am thankful for every square inch of home that we have. I’m thankful for three girls to fill this home with. I’m so very thankful for my husband who convinced me to buy this plot of land exactly 10 years ago and live in a garage until we could build our little dream home.
This is one of the many reasons I adore Fall. The season of Thanksgiving reminds me to simply breathe in the stage we are currently at in our life and enjoy everything that we have been given. It’s SO very easy to continually be looking forward to what the next stage of life might be, or striving for the next goal, and forget to stop and enjoy all of the moments we’re experiencing right now.

Today I have the pleasure of sharing our Fall home tour with you. I’m hosting and participating in the Canadian Bloggers Home Tour again this season, so please make sure to visit all of the homes that are involved in the tour this week by clicking on the links at the end of this post.
In case you are new here, hello! My name is Christina and I’m a DIY and decor blogger who lives with my 3 kids, husband, and 2 dogs on the Alberta prairies. We built our home from the basement up in 2013 after 7 years of living in a garage on our dream acreage. You can read more about that here.

Pumpkins: Superstore | Bowl: Vintage | Vase: Homesense
We have a 2200 square foot home on 3 acres. It has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Since we built it on our own, we’re still working on finishing a lot of the details like the boring stuff (caulking and painting the trim) and the more luxurious stuff (the master bathroom). It’s a work in progress, but we really love it and it feels so very much like home.
Our entryway is always filled with bags and boots. In Fall it’s at its worse because we’re wearing anything from sandals to snow boots depending on the day!
Sectional: The Brick | Coffee Table: The Brick | Rug: Rugs USA
We recently rearranged our living room after we sent the TV down to the basement.
Read more about our living room here.
Some faux pumpkins and limelight hydrangeas from our garden give our living room such a lovely but simple Fall feel.
Silver Pumpkin: Homesense | Books: Vintage | Dresser: The Brick, refinished
I moved my vintage reupholstered cane chairs from our other room to here, and I’m loving how they look in this room!
Fluffy dried hydrangeas on the mantel contrast the industrial look of my DIY clock. Plus, garden flowers are such an inexpensive way to decorate for the season!
As we turn the corner to the kitchen, you might notice that we have a new dining table and hutch. I’ve had my eye on these for a while, and in preparation for the holiday season it was finally time to say goodbye to the old table we previously had here.
As much as we loved the old set, it was getting incredibly rickety and worn. Plus, the chairs and the table were quite small and the scale just wasn’t quite right for this space and for larger gatherings. The Hancock Park table and chairs dining set from The Brick was the perfect replacement for our family. It has the traditional farmhouse look that I love, but the quality is far superior to what we had here before.
(Read more about my jewel toned floral Fall tablescape here.)
There’s even a leaf that slips into the center of the table so that the table can extend to 90 inches long! This will be perfect for the dinners we have planned this year.
I also fell in love with the matching Hancock Park buffet & hutch. It has the same soft white finish with slight distressing as the table and chairs, and the trim detailing on this piece is gorgeous.
Custom Art: Jibe Prints
I’ve styled the hutch with some simple plates, bowls and flowers that I had on hand, but eventually I’d love to collect a whole lot of vintage milk glass to display here.
Blanket Scarf: Simons
More dried hydrangeas and faux pumpkins give the rest of the kitchen an inexpensive, but relaxed and cozy fall look.
As we take time this season to stop, take a breath, and enjoy good food and company with our family and friends my hope is that everyone who leaves our home will have felt cozy, safe, relaxed and happy. I simply cannot wait for our next big gathering this coming month!
