Installing Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring | One Room Challenge Week 6
It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for another Tiny Lake House kitchen renovation update for the One Room Challenge! Today I’m sharing how we installed the luxury vinyl plank flooring in our little cabin.

For this season of the ORC (a collaborative online event where folks share a room makeover done in 8 weeks), I’m sharing the weekly progress of our Tiny Lake House Kitchen. In case you missed it, we’re renovating a 476 square foot cabin by a lake and turning it into our second Airbnb + a place for our family to enjoy. We’ve completely gutted the cabin to re-insulate it and alter the floor plan. You can see that here.
I jumped in a couple weeks late for the Fall 2022 One Room Challenge, and here’s what I’ve shared of our kitchen makeover so far:
- Week 3: Modern Vintage Cottage Kitchen Mood Board
- Week 4: Kitchen Tables for Small Spaces
- Week 5: Installing a Shiplap Ceiling
Here’s what our Tiny Lake House kitchen looks like on Week 6:

YES. It looks exactly the same as LAST WEEK and THE WEEK BEFORE. YIKES! We have been focusing all our time on grading the cabin’s yard before the snow came (TODAY). I’ve also been focusing on the tiny entry of the cabin so that I can share it on YouTube this weekend.

The bedroom in the cabin is DONE, though, and there are some finishes that we’re going to replicate exactly in the kitchen. Installing luxury vinyl plank flooring is one of them.
How we installed luxury vinyl plank flooring in our cabin

For the flooring in our tiny cabin, I chose this LVP from Divine Flooring. It’s a beautiful natural oak colour, and you install it in three different widths which I thought was a unique twist! We used Divine Flooring luxury vinyl plank in our first little lake house rental, and I love how it’s held up to all the wear & tear so far. It’s a solid core vinyl plank that clicks together.

Installing a floating luxury vinyl plank is quite easy, in my opinion. All you need is a miter saw, a hammer, and you’re good to go! We began by laying a row of the widest plank down by the far wall. I attached the short ends of the planks together first. These planks easily click together, and you set the seams with a hammer and a scrap piece of LVP.

After attaching the short ends of the planks together, I took a hammer and scrap piece of the flooring and hammered the long ends in place. For this flooring, I alternated wide, narrow, and medium-width planks and made sure to stagger the seams.

Typically, you can use the piece you cut off the previous row to start the next one, or sometimes I cut a whole new piece if I don’t like where the seams line up. I like to ensure my seams are at least 6 inches apart from one row to the next.

After finishing the flooring installation, I installed all of the baseboards for a finished look. I LOVE the colour and texture of this floor, and I can’t wait to see it in the kitchen (and the rest of the cabin)!

The To-Do List
Here’s how we’re doing on our to-do list for this kitchen renovation:
