Make a DIY Summer Hoop Wreath

Now, if you’re not an Edmonton local I want to show you how to make these wreaths so you can craft along with us in spirit. 🙂 I made a couple of variations, and you can do one or the other, or combine them to make something that’s totally YOU!
JUMP TO THE PRINTABLE INSTRUCTIONS
Supplies:
- 14″ metal hoop
- macrame cord
- cotton lace trim (optional)
- faux succulents OR faux flowers
- glue gun
Instructions:
Cut a long piece of macrame cord of its spool, and begin wrapping it around the metal hoop. Tack it with hot glue at the beginning, and then about every 10 wraps to keep it in place.
Next, cut 20 length of macrame cord that measure about 20″ long each. Attach them to the bottom of the hoop using a lark’s head knot.
Using the first four strands of macrame cord on the right hand side of your hoop, create a square knot about 2″ down from the hoop. Repeat until you’ve created 10 square knots across the bottom of the hoop.
Then create another staggered row of square knots by skipping the first two cord strands on the right, and using the next 4 strands to create another square knot about 2″ down from the first row. Repeat until you’ve created a row of 9 square knots.
Unravel the bottoms of the cords, brush them out with a hair brush, and then trim the bottom of the piece to your desired shape. I trimmed mine into an arrow shape.
Attach faux succulents to one side of the hoop to complete your wreath.
So cute & summer, right?
You could also create a more country / romantic version of this wreath by tying a mix of macrame cord and cotton lace trim to the base of a covered hoop with lark’s heads knots. Instead of succulents, use faux peonies for a softer, more colourful alternative.
I love how these turned out and I can’t wait to make them with my local friends at the workshop in June!

What size macrame cord is needed?
I love this wreath and I’m super excited that I have some of these hoops on hand that I knew I would find a use for eventually. It’S amazing!! Did you pull the blooms off the stems or trim the stem? I am making one and not certain on the off chance that I draw off the blossom from the stem and, at that point heated glue to the circle or leave the stem on and use wire to wrap it onto the band. Much obliged!
We cut them and hot glued them. Some stems were quite difficult to trim so we just got creative with how we placed them 😉
