This year, I’m trying to include some Nordic inspired elements in our Christmas decor and the first project to tackle is this simple n0-sew faux fur Christmas Tree Skirt. I think a big part of Nordic decor is the use of fur whether it be real or faux. I LOVE furry things (especially at Christmas!)

You’ll notice lots of high-end stores carry different versions and colours of faux fur Christmas tree skirts, but today I want to show you how to make one for a fraction of the cost. The best part? There’s no sewing required!

How To Make A No-Sew Faux Fur Christmas Tree Skirt

Materials: 

• 2 yards faux fur (I got mine from OnlineFabricStore.net here – it’s beautiful and so soft!)
• ribbon
• glue gun
• fabric scissors
• Sharpie + string

Directions:

Fold your faux fur fabric into a triangle as shown above and cut the excess. This creates a perfect square of fabric.

Fold the square of fabric in half, and then in half again. Cut off a length of string, tie it around a sharpie, and hold the end of the string at the folded point of the square.

Hold the string taught, make sure your marker aligns with the edge of the fabric (adjust where the string is tied if needed), and pull the marker along the square as shown to create a 1/4 circle. I also use this technique to make circle skirts for infinity dresses!

Cut the fabric along the line you’ve made one layer at a time. The fur is thick!

The secret to cutting fur is to slide your scissors under the fur so that you’re only cutting the fabric backing. This way, when your piece has been cut there will be minimal sheared fur edges.

In between cutting, shake your piece out outside, or make sure you have your Dyson vac ready to go! 😉

Now make a 1/4 circle at the top folded corner of your fabric using the same method with the string + marker. Mine is about 3″ from the point (so it makes a 6″ circle when opened). Cut a slit in one side.

When opened, your fabric will now look like this.

Cut 6 pieces of ribbon into 8-10″ strips.

Attach the ribbon to your tree skirt opening with a glue gun.

I put one ribbon piece on each side of my opening at the top, middle and bottom.

Wrap the tree skirt around the base of your Christmas tree, tie the ribbons, and you’re done!

I like to ruffle my furry tree skirt just a little to give it some character.
