Make Baby Leg Warmers from Socks
Baby leg warmers are cute and practical. Not only do they look adorable, they cushion baby’s knees when crawling and keep baby’s legs warm on a cool day. Baby leg warmers also make diaper changes a snap! Boutique-style baby leg warmers can be expensive, so I’ve devised a way to create them from an inexpensive pair of children’s knee-high socks. My total material cost was under $5.00, and these leg warmers only took me 15 minutes to sew! Want to make some for your little angel? Here’s how:
Materials:
- 1 pair of children’s knee-high socks (shoe size: 5-10)
- 1 package 3/4″ width knitted elastic
- sewing machine & coordinating thread

What is a good general size for the elastic cuff if I were to make these as gifts for a baby??
Thanks!!
Hi Mia! I would say about 5″ of elastic would be good for a young baby.
The J.Crew outlet had the cutest argyle socks in the crewcuts section this week – I just made two pairs for our baby-to-be. I hope the baby is a girl otherwise someone will be getting a super cute gift!
Is the elastic for the top? I’m not understanding? Thank you.
Hi Marion! The elastic is for the ankle. Babies ankles are quite small, and most socks will be larger than their tiny ankles, so the elastic helps cinch the sock snugly.
I love these have made several pair for my soon to be born granddaughter. However Im going to attempt to make the little lace leg warmers out of trouser socks and lace… which me luck!! Great blog!
Ha, WISH me LUCK!
Good luck, Shay! I hope the lace ones worked for you!
Such a cute, cute leg warmer tutorial!!!
