Make DIY Glittery Cloud Dough (with Vegetable Oil + Flour)
The thing about having girls is that there is a lot of glitter.
We make sparkly artwork, we have glittery shoes, we put sparkling barrettes in our hair… the list is endless. I love it.
I’ve been wanting to make “cloud dough” for a while for my girls (it’s mouldable dough with a soft, silky texture) and when a rainy day presented itself a couple of weeks ago I knew it was the perfect opportunity to get to work.
Most recipes I’ve seen use baby oil, but I wanted to use what I had on hand, so I used simple vegetable oil and flour. What makes our DIY cloud dough special is the “fairy dust” (glitter) we sprinkled it with and the secret “treasures” (sequins)!
Here’s how I made this simple, glittery cloud dough:
Mix 8 cups of flour with 3/4 cups of vegetable oil, a sprinkling of “fairy dust” (coarse glitter) and a handful of “jeweled treasure” (sequins). I used a wooden spoon, and then my hands to squeeze it together.
The dough should be like sticky sand that you can form into a ball when squeezed (if it’s still to powdery, add more oil bit by bit).
I put ours in a big tub on the floor and let the girls go to town. The lovely thing about this dough is that it’s not hard to sweep up if it “accidentally” gets tromped all over your kitchen floor (it’s also a nice activity for outside).
Sand toys, sisters and glittery cloud dough? A perfect day.
Oooo, we LOVE cloud dough here! I’ve never thought to add anything extra to it though. Glitter would be gorgeous if I weren’t such a glitterphobe lol. I could totally handle sequins though! Thanks for the great idea. I’m off to get a little lost in your blog now. 🙂
Haha! Yes, just sequins would also be just as fun. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and your lovely comments!
