Mood Board: A Rich & Magical Girls’ Bedroom Design
It’s One Room Challenge time! I’ve decided to join again this season, and I’m so excited to work on the room I chose this time!
In case you’ve never heard of it, the One Room Challenge is a challenge hosted by Calling It Home where several interior designers and dozens of guest participants (usually home decor bloggers like myself) makeover one room in their home over the course of 6 weeks. I’ve done 4 previous ORCs before, so this one will be my 5th!
Here’s a quick look at the rooms I’ve done for the One Room Challenge in the past:
Spring 2016: Little C’s Shabby Chic Bedroom
Fall 2016: Our Modern French Country Master Bedroom
Spring 2017: Farmhouse Boho Dining Room
Fall 2017: Mom’s Lake House Master Bedroom
Looks like I enjoy making over bedrooms for the ORC, doesn’t it? Well, I’ll be at it again as I make over this room for this season’s challenge:
Little A’s Bedroom!
It’s a really cute room as-is, however I designed the whole thing when my middle daughter, Little A, was only 18 months old (minus the bed.. that came later after the crib).
This girl has turned into such a unique character, and with her 7th birthday coming up in November, I thought it was the perfect time to make over her bedroom to suit her personality better!
She loves moody, rich colours and lots of magical accessories, so we’re going to call her room a Rich and Magical Girl’s Bedroom.
Here’s the mood board (I made it in Photoshop) with a list of potential items to give you an idea of where we want to go with the decor:
- Carved Wooden Headboard
- Gold Chandelier
- Velvet Floor Pillow
- Tassled Velvet Pillow
- Gold Sequin Pillow
- Dreaming of the Day paint by Cloverdale
- Gold
- Coral Pink
- Atlantic Waves paint by Cloverdale
- Unicorn Faux Taxidermy
- Teal Overdyed Rug
- Unicorns & Sparkles Wood Sign
- Gold Mirror
- Unicorn Fabric
- Rattan Basket
- Teal Cashmere Throw Blanket
I have minimal product sponsors for this makeover, but I’m actually excited for the challenge of keeping everything on a budget. We’ll be re-using and upcycling lots of things we already have with the exception of some paint, a few accessories and some shelving.
One of the main parts of this makeover will be the addition of a semi-built-in window seat and shelves using pre-made shelving:
It will look something like the poorly Photoshopped image above, haha! Little A has always wanted a window seat in her room, and we all know that kids need as much storage as they can get!
I’m really excited to take you along with me as I work on this room, and I admit I’m even more excited to do this for my beautiful daughter just before her birthday and see her reaction!
Here’s a basic list of what I’ll be doing in this room:
- purging, donating & organizing the items Little A has in the room
- painting all the trim and walls
- painting the current light fixture
- creating a DIY bed with a vintage screen headboard
- building a semi-built-in window seat & shelves
- sewing (or customizing?) a black-out shade
- sewing a custom duvet cover & pillow cover
- accessorizing the room with soft accents and art
Think I can do it?? Make sure to stay tuned each week to my blog and YouTube channel to see the progress, and check out all of the other designers and bloggers taking part by visiting the One Room Challenge link up!
