Our Neutral Valentine’s Day Mantel Decor
Like I mentioned before, I never thought I’d take the time to decorate a mantel for Valentine’s Day, but here we are. Honestly? I think it’s pretty and Little C was just ecstatic when she saw we were putting lots of hearts up on our mantel to celebrate her favourite holiday!
I decided to decorate in mostly neutral colours, and everything I used was what I already had on hand, or what I could make for free. Just the way I like it!
This DIY heart book page wreath takes center stage, and you can read how I made it (with a video!) here.
I covered the insert of a picture frame I had with drop cloth, and then I stenciled the word “love” on the bottom of it. I printed out the word (the font is “Bombshell”), and then I coloured the back of the paper with a pencil. Then I placed the paper onto my dropcloth frame and traced around the letters so that the pencil on the back transferred to the drop cloth.
Then, I traced around the letters and filled them in with a black Sharpie. I extended the lines of the first and last letter to the edge of the frame.
The DIY coffee filter trees are from our Christmas mantel.
This rainbow coloured DIY crochet hearts banner is one of my favourite things. You can read how to make your own here.
What do you think? Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day?
I am in love with the book page wreath. I have made a gold dipped burlap wreath for Valentine’s Day (last year) and it is heart shaped, too! I am a wreath addict and just love yours!
Thanks, Carrie! I totally love wreaths too. I’ll have to see if I can find your gold dipped one – sounds so cute!
I love your amazing mantel! Who built it? I have a floor to ceiling stone fireplace as well and am considering a mantel and LOVE the look of yours.
Thanks, Laura! I designed it, and my parents and my hubby built it. Here’s a post about it: http://thediymommy.wpsc.dev/building-our-fireplace-the-diy-mantel-our-diy-house/
