2019 Christmas Home Tour | Rustic, Elegant & Cozy
Welcome to our home all decorated for Christmas! Let me show you our living room, breakfast nook, kitchen, dining room and basement dressed for the season in a rustic, elegant and cozy style.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by The Brick. As always, all of the opinions here are my own.
This project is part of the Seasonal Simplicity blog hop hosted by The Happy Housie, so after you read my post make sure to see all of the other Christmas home tours linked at the bottom!
Welcome to our home on the Alberta prairies! We built our home ourselves in 2013, and we’re continually working on it and making it cozy and special as we go. This year, I decorated our house in an elegant, rustic and cozy style for Christmas with lots of neutral colours, metallics, tons of warm textures, and lots of greenery. Come take a tour of our main floor & basement, and get some simple Christmas decorating ideas for your own home!
Living Room
Living room photos by Tracey Jazmin
The first room you see to the right of our front door is our main living room. I’ve added a warm DIY arm knit blanket on our comfy Frank Chairs from The Brick, and I love the marriage of rustic and handmade. These chairs lean back, and make you feel so relaxed! I’ve also added handmade pillows and a DIY plush throw blanket in this room for added coziness and texture.
Our tree is decorated with rustic picks, metallic ribbon, giant DIY pom-poms and hand painted ornaments. You can read more about it right here. I’ve put our DIY paper houses advent calendar on our sideboard, and added some subtle greenery to our artwork and chandelier.
Soft accent colours of cream and brown go so well with our new sectional from The Brick’s Designed2B line in this gorgeous teal velvet.
I was able to choose the style (the “Flora”) and configuration (a loveseat and chaise) I wanted for this piece, and we’re loving how it suits the shape and function of this room. And it’s so soft and cozy for Christmas evenings by the fireplace!
On the matching round ottoman, also from The Brick’s Designed2B line, I placed my DIY tray with some flameless candles, a Christmas cloche, an antler shed and some faux greenery inside. I love subtle touches like this that aren’t fussy, but add a little Christmas cheer into our home.
The star of our Christmas mantel is the Mansard Mirror flanked with metallic bottle brush trees. I love the shape of this mirror, and move it from room to room all the time! It’s so beautiful. I’ve also added some faux greenery, creamy white stockings and my DIY tassel banner to our mantel.
Breakfast Nook
Swapping out our breakfast nook drapes back to these simple white ones gave this space the brightness I wanted it to have for our often dark winter months. I love the simplicity of all the white tones here, and they truly make our Trudell Table from The Brick shine.
The traditional pedestal table contrasts so nicely with these metal farmhouse chairs that I painted white white chalk paint, and furry & textured textiles on the chairs and dining nook bench add some comfort to this space. We made some simple gingerbread houses to use as an easy (and edible!) centerpiece here too.
Kitchen
I like to keep seasonal decor relatively simple in our kitchen so that it doesn’t prevent us from working in here. There are a ton of Christmas cookies to bake here over the next few weeks, after all!
A small tray of Christmas ornaments and a candle adds a festive touch to our island.
Over our sink, I hung a faux eucalyptus garland and lights with some removable hooks. I often put wreaths on the cupboards in this room, but I love the garland this year! This is one of our hardest working areas in our home, so it’s nice not to have lots of greenery to get in the way. We still love our black KitchenAid dishwasher from The Brick. After dozens and dozens of loads of dishes, it’s still going strong! I’m also still happy with how it blends into our black lower cabinets for a sleek look.
On the counter over the dishwasher, some more simple seasonal touches like jars filled with faux snow and bottle brush trees, an ornament, and a diffuser filled with yummy-smelling essential oils adds cheer to our kitchen.
We’re gearing up to use our KitchenAid Electric Double Oven a lot this season as we prep to bake cookies, pies, and at least one giant holiday meal here this month. The double oven feature makes it easy to do a couple completely different dishes at once, and my favourite burner is the bottom right one for how quickly it boils water. Do YOU have a favourite stove top burner?
We even cleared off my biggest nemesis in this space – our hook wall – and stored away all our Spring and Summer gear in favour of warm jackets and scarves. This KitchenAid Multi-Door Refrigerator is still one of my favourite things of all time, and I still can’t believe it’s in our kitchen! I love how the black stainless steel looks against our white cupboards on this side of the kitchen, and it’s streamlined look.
More simple festive touches in our kitchen include a copper banner in front of our range hood, and a few candles and copper-coloured baking accessories on the counter. I’m totally digging this copper, green, black & white combo!
Dining Room
Around the corner from our kitchen is our dining room. I think it’s my favourite space in our home this season! Because our new Topaz Area Rug is so colourful, I kept the Christmas decor mostly neutral with pops of green. I like how soft the rug is on the feet, and how much personality it brings to this space.
This table centerpiece is so easy – it’s simply some old mercury glass decorative trees surrounded by real & faux greens and fairy lights. It’s such a minimal look, but it’s so elegant.
White and gold plates keep this simple theme going, and thrifted green stemware adds a fun accent to the table. All of the white and green really makes our Keswick Dining Table stand out. I can’t wait to have friends and family here for a meal (or two, or three!) this month.
I also put up a Christmas tree in here, and I love how it turned out! Gold ribbon, faux flowers and ornaments against the flocked branches are subtle and sweet. I added a few aqua coloured ornaments to tie in with our wall colour, and it’s amazing how even a few of them make a difference!
Basement
The final room I want to share with you today is our basement. We recently renovated it, and it’s been one of our girls’ favourite spots to play!
Our Sydney Barn-Door 6-Piece Entertainment Center hides our TV and has ample storage for all our books, toys and games. I’ve added a simple greenery garland to the top of it along with a felt ball banner and handmade paper Christmas banner.
Christmas colouring and craft supplies on the coffee table is a fun way to invite the girls to craft!
I put a lit birch tree down here that I’ve had for years, and we decorated it with ornaments in colours the girls love: pink, red and turquoise. The love all the glitter and sparkle and colour!
When our whole family wants to watch Christmas movies, we still adore our giant Paris Sectional. After a few years it’s still in great shape, it’s so comfortable, and it fits all 5 of us with ease. I’ve kept out the jewel toned DIY pillows here, and I think they look great with all of the rest of the colourful Christmas decor.
