2019 Spring Home Tour: Romantic French Country with a Modern Twist

Come take a tour of our country home decorated for Spring this year! I was inspired by the romance of French Country decor, but gave it a unique twist with modern & colourful accents.

I ADORE Spring. There’s something so exciting about the newness and freshness of the season! Pastel colours and flowers are right up my alley too, so that definitely plays into my love for Spring!

Today I want to share the main floor of our home all decorated for the season with you. I was inspired by the French Country decor style along with a fresh colour combo: lavender purple and aqua blue. I tried to steer away from the pink I’ve featured for so long in our home and try something new!

First up? Our living room. This is at the front of our home and it’s my favourite space on the main floor. After recently giving it a makeover with The Brick last Fall, it’s been even more inviting.

I’ve added colour to our beautiful Meredith velvet sofa with some handmade pillows in floral and striped fabrics with purple and aqua tones. The neutral, traditional looking grey velvet of the sofa looks great with any accent colours, and we’re loving the surprising durability of the velvet fabric!

Doesn’t this Wynn accent chair look perfect for Spring with its gorgeous floral fabric? I’m so glad I took the plunge and decided to go for a pair of these patterned chairs – they’re so comfy and fun! I’ve dressed them up for Spring with some trendy tasseled pillows. A vase of faux flowers in purple tones atop our Keir Coffee Table adds just the right amount of Spring here, and I really like the contrast of the feminine with the rustic of this table. We like to store our extra pillows (like my faves – the Mongolian Sheepskin Pillows from The Brick) and books in the handy shelf of the coffee table. (Our rug is the Ahmar rug and it’s so soft and a great value!)

Stacks of vintage books, dried lavender and faux greenery are a subtle French Country touch and they look fabulous with our Mansard Mirror and rustic candlesticks (found in-store at The Brick). I wanted a vintage inspired, romantic mantel for Spring and I love how this design turned out!

Just off the living room is our breakfast nook and kitchen area.

I kept this room simple this season and I love the fresh feeling of it for Spring. Our green Manhattan Dining Chairs really pop against all of the tones of white in here, and our Trudell Dining Table is a nice traditional contrast to the modern lines of the chairs.

Don’t you love green for Spring? It reminds me of plants and all the things that will be growing in our garden soon! I’m still smitten with the unique colour of these chairs, and by how simple they are to wipe down. You can catch all of my velvet furniture care tips right here.

A simple vase of faux tulips and lavender stems is a really easy DIY touch and adds a subtle Spring feeling to our breakfast nook. I simply placed some floral foam in a vase, inserted the stems and voila!

The rest of our kitchen area is just simple, light & fresh looking this season, too. I still love the drama of our two-toned cabinets, and the addition of the black stainless steel appliances last Christmas takes the whole space up a notch!

We still love our KitchenAid Electric Double Oven from The Brick, and it’s already cooked dozens of meals for us and warmed many-a-waffle with it’s warming feature in the lower oven. I find it easy to clean, simple to use, and I love how it looks with a DIY embellished aqua hand towel

On this side of the kitchen, I’ve brought in some more subtle pops of aqua with some hobnail glass jars styled over our new KitchenAid dishwasher. We’ve put this thing through the ringer with our large amounts of dishes, and it’s performed so well! I still love how it blends right into our base cabinets for a sleek, modern look.

Our fridge is on the other side of the kitchen, and probably the most revered appliance over the last few months. It’s the KitchenAid Multi-Door Refrigerator and we sure love how it’s kept us organized with it’s multi-drawers! We also love the external water dispenser and the way it contrasts so dramatically with our white cupboards.

Fresh, clean and ready for the Spring… I’m so happy with the simple look of our Spring kitchen area!

Finally, come on in to our dining room – just down the hall from the kitchen. Again, light & bright is the theme in here with little pops of florals and greenery for Spring.

I’ve kept almost everything in this room white our very light in colour to highlight the gorgeous wood tone of our Keswick Table from The Brick. I love how the legs really pop against all the neutral tones in here, and how my DIY macrame runner looks against the textured wood. And here’s another simple DIY idea for your Spring table: find a rustic metal caddy like this one I found in-store at The Brick and fill it with Spring greenery like moss, faux succulents and faux birds’ nests. It’s such an easy way to add nature to the table!

I also added in Springy natural elements with this handmade faux eucalyptus garland on the sideboard. I simply put a few faux lavender stems throughout the garland to make it feel more seasonal. Some boxwood topiaries flanking the vintage look clock I found at The Brick give this side of the room a French Country feel which I love!

Simple plates in white and green accented with floral napkins complete this fresh, Spring table setting in our dining room. All this Spring decorating is getting me so excited for the warmer weather and all the newness that comes with it!
