“My Favorite Things” Blue, Silver & Rose Gold Christmas Tree
One of my favourite movies of all time is The Sound of Music. My family’s most loved song from the flick? “My Favorite Things!” This year more than ever, we wanted to fill our home with nostalgic Christmas decor and happy items, so a Christmas tree inspired by this song was the perfect thing to start off our seasonal decorating in our home. Let me show you how we created our blue, silver & rose gold Christmas tree this year that’s inspired by one of our favourite songs.
I’m so excited to be taking part in the My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition hosted by Stephanie of Casa Watkins Living! I’m joining several other bloggers this week who are sharing their Christmas trees all decorated for the season. It’s a great way for you to get inspiration no matter what your style! Make sure to check out all the links at the bottom of this post to see all the trees.
My three daughters helped me decorate our tree in the living room, and they did such an amazing job! (I only had to move a few things afterwards, haha.) They were just as excited as I was about this theme.
Not familiar with “My Favorite Things?” Here are the lyrics:
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things.
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites, when the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad.

We started decorating our Christmas tree with picks and ornaments in shades of blue, silver and rose gold. The rose gold was our “copper” element for the “bright copper kettles” in the Sound of Music song.
The blue ornaments are from Walmart this year, the rose gold ones were from Michaels last year, and the picks were from Michaels as well. We hung a few of the round ornaments solo, and then grouped 3 ornaments together (like I did in my studio tree) with pipe cleaners and hung those.
Next, I created some oversized bows from wired satin ribbon in a soft shade of blue for the “blue satin sashes” part of the song.
We packed this tree full of nostalgic and quirky ornaments like these silver bells (from Michaels this year)…
… these warm woolen mittens (from Walmart this year)…
… fluffy feathers (from my decor stash)…
… cream coloured ponies (er… pegasus!)…
… snowflakes (from Walmart this year)…
… and roses.
Of course, we couldn’t forget the brown (and blue and copper!) paper packages tied up with string to go beneath our Christmas tree!
I think this tree turned out so sweet, and my girls ADORE it! Not only does it remind them of our fave Christmas song, but they think it has Cinderella vibes, too!
What do you think of this eclectic, romantic Christmas tree in blues, silvers, and rose golds?
